Learn About Great Teams
TEAM PLAYER EXPLAINED:
Team players find ways to make other people better. They take selfless action to resolve issues. Team players listen actively, stay present in the moment and stay engaged in their conversations. Our team players are always hungry to help earn the team a win.
TEAM PLAYERS IN-ACTION:
The best team players often show their commitment and importance to the greater group through action not talk. One of my teammates at Black Kanyon exemplifies what being a team player is all about.
I once called him at 6:00 pm on a Tuesday regarding a product we needed to physically obtain ASAP. The product was located thousands of miles away. We needed it on Wednesday for an event. The timing schedule we were under was important and certainly not ideal.
My teammate Matt booked the first available flight moments after our call, flew to Pittsburgh, drove an hour-and-a-half to pick up the products, then flew immediately to Phoenix to deliver what we needed by hand. I believe he went to bed at 2 AM after more than 24-hours of traveling and logistics work.
Anyone can travel on short-notice and deliver urgent products when they are needed of course. But as Matt showed during my spur-of-the-moment request, great team players reveal their abilities through action not talk. During my request of him, Matt never once responded with negativity or challenging questions. He embraced the challenge without question and charged ahead to take on the travel task. I remember at one point hearing him say that the process could be fun and that he’d love to do it. That is someone I want to take on challenges with.
